POSITION SUMMARY

Under the guidance and oversight of senior personnel, this role encompasses a diverse range of law enforcement responsibilities aimed at safeguarding individuals and property, promoting legal compliance, responding to emergencies, conducting investigations, and engaging with the community.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

No supervisory duties are associated with this position.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conducts patrols throughout the jurisdiction on foot, bicycle, and in department vehicles to ensure safety and enforce laws, regulations, and policies while exercising sound judgment in challenging situations.
  • Responds to various service calls related to criminal activities, emergencies, and public safety concerns, making assessments and taking appropriate actions, including apprehending suspects and ensuring their rights are upheld.
  • Engages in thorough investigations of incidents, collecting and preserving evidence, interviewing witnesses, and preparing detailed reports for further action.
  • Addresses public complaints and potentially volatile situations, providing assistance and maintaining peace as necessary.
  • Serves legal documents and performs sobriety tests when required, ensuring compliance with legal standards and procedures.
  • Responds to fire incidents and medical emergencies, providing first aid and coordinating with emergency services as needed.
  • Collaborates with other law enforcement agencies to address and mitigate criminal activities and civil disturbances.
  • Maintains accurate records and documentation related to law enforcement activities.
  • Safely operates and maintains law enforcement equipment and vehicles.
  • Participates in community outreach initiatives to foster positive relationships and promote public safety awareness.
  • Stays informed on developments in public safety through continuous education and training.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
  • May perform duties as a Deputy Coroner, determining causes of death in specific cases.
  • Represents the department in community events and collaborates with various organizations.
  • May be assigned to disaster response duties as required.
  • Performs other related responsibilities as assigned.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

  • Understanding of law enforcement operations and relevant laws.
  • Familiarity with crime prevention strategies and community policing principles.
  • Knowledge of emergency response protocols and safety practices.

Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or GED, completion of POST Police Academy.
  • Valid California driver's license and POST Basic Certification.
PHYSICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL DEMANDS

Employees must meet physical fitness standards and be capable of performing essential job functions, including lifting and restraining individuals when necessary. Psychological resilience is required to handle the demands of law enforcement work.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is conducted in both office settings and outdoor environments, with exposure to various hazards. Flexibility in work hours may be required to respond to emergencies.
