Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Water/Wastewater Operator I to join our team at Madera County, CA. As a key member of our Public Works Department, you will be responsible for constructing, maintaining, repairing, operating, and inspecting water distribution and wastewater treatment systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain water and wastewater facilities and systems, including generators, compressors, pumps, chemical equipment, valves, motors, and meters.
  • Perform system flushing, install new piping, valves, and services, and locate and repair service line leaks.
  • Calibrate and adjust telemetry signals and records readings; enter confined spaces to check wells, motors, and pumps.
  • Collect and perform basic chemical tests on water or reclaimed water/wastewater samples for compliance monitoring.
  • Monitor supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems and make necessary adjustments to maintain an adequate supply of water and water pressure for customers.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of equipment and power tools used in water/wastewater system maintenance and construction work.
Requirements
  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
  • One (1) year experience equivalent to that of a Water/Wastewater Worker with Madera County.
  • Possession of a valid Grade I Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate, issued by the State Water Resources Control Board.
  • Possession of a valid California driver's license.
Working Conditions

Employees work in the field and are exposed to loud noise levels, cold and hot temperatures, inclement weather conditions, vibration, confining workspace, chemicals, mechanical and/or electrical hazards, and hazardous physical substances and fumes.

Employees may interact with members of the public or with staff under emotionally stressful conditions while interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
