This role involves functioning as an engineer within the Pressure Systems Recertification Group. This division conducts and assesses structural integrity evaluations on piping and pressure vessels to ensure that aging high-pressure systems remain within their operational lifespan and can continue to function safely. These pressurized systems encompass wind tunnels as well as process and utility piping, which includes cryogenic liquids, hydraulics, liquid fuels, and high-pressure gases such as air, nitrogen, oxygen, hydrogen, silane, and methane.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform code calculations in accordance with national consensus standards, including ASME BPVC Section VIII and ASME B31.3. Familiarity with COMPRESS - Pressure Vessel Code Analysis software is advantageous.
  • Conduct backpressure calculations for pressure safety valves (PSV).
  • Engage in non-destructive testing (NDT), including visual inspections (VT) and ultrasonic thickness measurements (UTT).
  • Carry out inspections and compile inspection reports that document any rejectable findings while proposing modifications to in-service inspection strategies.
  • Provide technical insights for proposed modifications, repair packages, and construction documentation.

Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship is required. A BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution is preferred, along with three (3) to five (5) years of relevant engineering experience, or an MS degree with two (2) to three (3) years of related experience, or a Ph.D. from an accredited engineering school.
  • Proficiency in ASME, NBIC, ASNT, API, and other relevant national consensus codes and standards related to pressure vessel/system design, fabrication, installation, and inspection is essential.
  • Possession of or willingness to obtain ASNT NDT Level II certification is required.
  • Familiarity with non-destructive examination techniques (e.g., RT, UTT, PT, MT, EC, etc.) is desirable.
  • Knowledge of corrosion prevention and control methods is advantageous.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are necessary, along with the ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively in both written and oral forms.

Work Environment:
Office setting (75%). Exposure to high noise levels, hazardous materials, chemicals, and industrial environments may occur during testing (5%).

Equipment and Tools:
Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, fax, copier, etc.) (30%). Safety and Personal Protective Equipment (10%).

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to navigate all areas of testing facilities. Ability to walk, stand, bend, twist, and sit for extended periods, as well as climb, crawl, and lift up to 35 lbs. (10%).

Additional Functions:
Must work effectively in a team-oriented environment. Professional behavior that enhances productivity and fosters teamwork is essential. Appropriate grooming and attire are required for the position, ensuring no safety risks to oneself or others. Ability to balance project scope, schedule, and budget is crucial for success. The role requires collaboration with individuals at all levels within the company and with clients. Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance as necessary. A valid driver's license is required.
