Assistant General Manager Job Description

Job Summary:

The Assistant General Manager is a key member of the hotel management team, responsible for driving hotel profitability through revenue generation, cost control, and guest satisfaction. This role requires a strong leader who can motivate and develop employees, while maintaining the integrity of the hotel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Play a pivotal role in hotel sales efforts, including calling on top clients, meeting with on-site contacts, and hosting events.
  • Tour operating departments daily, making adjustments as needed via department heads.
  • Conduct weekly staff meetings, including training sessions and review of sales and operations efforts.
  • Meet all financial review dates and corporate directed programs in a timely fashion.
  • Hold monthly financial reviews with department managers and supervisors.
  • Develop managers for future advancement through competency training and corporate sponsored programs.
  • Participate in required M.O.D. coverage as scheduled.
  • Maintain direct contact with management trainees and ensure compliance with Highgate Hotel policies and procedures.
  • Oversee and assist in the hotel budget process as required.
  • Ensure training in service standards is taking place in each department.
  • Assist in creating a positive team-oriented environment that focuses on the guest.
  • Inspect rooms regularly with the Housekeeping Manager and Property Engineer.
  • Ensure complete processing of invoices daily and provide financial documents to the Corporate Office.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of the physical property through inspections and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Forecast monthly the hotel's financial position and analyze previous and projected data to generate an accurate reforecast.
  • Prepare and conduct all management interviews and follow hiring procedures according to Highgate Hotel S.O.P.'s.
  • Interview all prospective final candidates for vacant management positions.
  • Motivate, coach, counsel, and discipline management personnel according to Highgate Hotel S.O.P.'s.
  • Perform any other duties as requested by the Vice President or Regional Director of Operations.

Requirements:

  • At least 5-6 years progressive experience in a hotel.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Long hours sometimes required.
  • Maintain a warm and friendly demeanor at all times.
  • Effective communication skills with all levels of employees and guests.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines.
  • Approach all encounters with guests and employees in an attentive, friendly, courteous, and service-oriented manner.
  • Attend all hotel required meetings and trainings.
  • Participate in M.O.D. coverage as required.
  • Maintain regular attendance in compliance with Highgate Hotel Standards.
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming.
  • Comply with Highgate Hotel Standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations.
  • Maximize efforts towards productivity and identify problem areas to implement solutions.
  • Effective in handling problems, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving problems as necessary.
  • Ability to understand and evaluate complex information, data, etc. from various sources to meet appropriate objectives.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.

Working Conditions:

Light work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
