Position Overview

The Governor's Prevention Partnership is dedicated to harnessing the potential of youth to effect positive change in society. This role offers a unique opportunity to innovate and develop resources aimed at mitigating the effects of the opioid crisis, particularly in New Haven, Connecticut. We seek a proactive individual who is enthusiastic about making a significant impact and is ready to take on responsibilities beyond entry-level expectations.

Role Responsibilities

This position is part of the AmeriCorps VISTA program. Ideal candidates will possess strong skills in public speaking, community engagement, team dynamics, training facilitation, and critical analysis. The role encourages collaboration with diverse groups and stakeholders, enabling the VISTA member to scale local prevention initiatives and youth mentoring programs.

As a VISTA member, you will have the autonomy to design, develop, and implement innovative and culturally relevant opioid prevention strategies. This position provides a platform for networking with various stakeholders and access to senior leadership across the state, fostering an environment where creative solutions to complex challenges faced by youth and families can flourish.

Commitment and Benefits

This full-time position requires a one-year commitment, with the possibility of extending service for up to two additional years. All candidates must meet the AmeriCorps VISTA approval criteria. Proof of COVID vaccination is mandatory.

Compensation includes an annual living stipend of $16,800, a one-year educational stipend of $6,495, and a one-year housing stipend of $5,000. Updates regarding the position will be communicated prior to any offers.

Qualifications
  • A minimum of an Associate's or Bachelor's degree.
  • 2-3 years of relevant job or volunteer experience.
  • Interests in public health, human services, education, social work, youth development, community organization, and prevention strategies.
  • Proficiency in data management and technology applications, with a willingness to learn organizational systems for reporting and data collection.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with staff, volunteers, and diverse external partners.
  • Bi-lingual proficiency in English and Spanish is advantageous, with strong verbal and written communication skills in both languages.
  • Research capabilities and the ability to distill complex information into accessible formats.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed.
