Position Overview

This section outlines the primary responsibilities and objectives of the role.

In this role, under the guidance of a supervisor and collaborating physicians, you will perform sonographic examinations on designated patients utilizing advanced ultrasound diagnostic tools. You will lead a team of diagnostic medical sonographers and play a key role in the operational management of the department. Your responsibilities will include developing and refining diagnostic protocols while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. You will also contribute to the education of residents and ultrasound trainees, assisting in the collection of vital sonographic data to support medical diagnoses.

Key Responsibilities

The following functions are typical of this position but are not exhaustive.

  • Ensure departmental procedures and policies are current and adhered to, delivering services in a timely and high-quality manner.
  • Oversee workflow and staff assignments, enhancing operational efficiency and resolving both technical and non-technical issues.
  • Participate in the training and orientation of new staff, students, and residents.
  • Coordinate clinical services and maintain appropriate staffing levels within the department.
  • Ensure all ultrasound equipment is properly maintained and operational, reporting any issues promptly.
  • Stay informed about legal requirements and accreditation standards, reporting any unusual incidents in a timely manner.
  • Lead and mentor staff, residents, and interns in conducting ultrasound examinations.
  • Maintain quality assurance protocols for ultrasound equipment and systems.
  • Contribute to the national accreditation processes for the ultrasound department.
  • Assist in the development and updating of procedural manuals, serving as a resource for staff.
  • Perform administrative tasks related to the operation of the diagnostic ultrasound department and support clinical and research initiatives.
  • Execute all duties of a Senior Sonographer in designated areas.
  • Address staffing and operational concerns, proposing solutions to management.
  • Manage troubleshooting and maintenance of ultrasound equipment, demonstrating proficiency with all relevant technology.
Qualifications

Qualifications may include a combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge and skills.

Education: A Bachelor’s degree is preferred, along with relevant licensure or certification.

Experience: A minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in a similar role.

Licensure/Certification: Certification from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Cardio Credentialing International (CCI) is required.
