About the Role

Amergis is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Correctional Nurse Specialist to join our team. As a Correctional Nurse Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the health and well-being of the incarcerated population.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assessment and Planning: Utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care in a correctional facility setting.
  • Patient Care: Perform focused interviews to identify specific patient needs, assess signs and symptoms indicating physiologic and psychosocial changes in the patient's condition, and conduct health histories on newly-admitted inmates.
  • Referrals and Emergency Care: Make referrals of inmates to the staff physician, nurse practitioner, dentist, or mental health professional when necessary, and determine the need for emergency hospital care.
  • Data Collection and Analysis: Collect, analyze, and interpret data and information from healthcare members and document actual and/or potential nursing diagnoses.
  • Documentation and Education: Document the patient's plan of care using identified nursing diagnoses, expected patient outcomes, and selected nursing interventions, and initiate and evaluate patient education.
  • Leadership and Supervision: Supervise, train, and direct other healthcare professionals on site, such as LPNs, CNAs, etc.
Requirements
  • Education and Licensure: Current Registered Nurse License for the state in which the nurse practices.
  • Experience: Minimum of one year of correctional health care experience preferred.
  • Professional Standards: Comply with all relevant professional standards of practice.
  • Training and Certification: Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable, and current CPR if applicable.
  • Health and Safety: TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable, and current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation).
  • Communication and Computer Skills: Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals via strong communication skills, and computer proficiency required.
