Amergis is seeking a skilled Correctional Nurse to join our team. As a Correctional Nurse, you will work in a correctional facility setting, providing care to inmates and ensuring their well-being.
Key Responsibilities- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care using the nursing process.
- Conduct focused interviews to identify specific patient needs.
- Assess signs and symptoms indicating physiologic and psychosocial changes in the patient's condition.
- Conduct health histories on newly-admitted inmates.
- Make referrals to staff physicians, nurse practitioners, dentists, or mental health professionals when necessary.
- Determine the need for emergency hospital care and ensure that all medication is administered in accordance with standard operating procedures and as ordered by the authorizing authority.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret data and information from healthcare members and document actual and/or potential nursing diagnoses.
- Document the patient's plan of care using identified nursing diagnoses, expected patient outcomes, and selected nursing interventions.
- Identify and prioritize actions based on patient care requirements.
- Monitor consistency between patient plan of care and actions of medical staff.
- Perform interventions according to identified priorities, plan of care, and hospital policies and patient care outcome standards.
- Initiate and evaluate patient education.
- Revises the plan of care according to evaluation, changes in medical plan of care, and effective/ineffective nursing interventions.
- Document patient's response to nursing and other interventions.
- Supervise, train, and direct other healthcare professionals on site, such as LPNs, CNAs, etc.
- Current Registered Nurse License for the state in which the nurse practices.
- Minimum of one year of correctional health care experience preferred.
- Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice.
- Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable.
- Current CPR if applicable.
- TB Questionnaire, PPD, or chest x-ray if applicable.
- Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation).
- Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements.
- Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site.
- Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
- Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required.
- Computer proficiency required.
