Position Overview
The Advanced Respiratory Care Specialist is responsible for fulfilling all competencies associated with Respiratory Therapist I and II roles, while also demonstrating proficiency in specialized areas such as Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) services, Advanced Pulmonary Diagnostic Services, or Cardiopulmonary Wellness. This role includes performing relief charge duties, bronchial procedures, and flexible tasks as part of regular responsibilities, alongside engaging in Professional Activities that accumulate to a total of six (6) points.
Under the guidance of the Manager and Medical Director, the CPWC Respiratory Therapist plays a crucial role in supporting all facets of the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program. Key responsibilities encompass conducting patient intakes, which involve assessing diagnostic criteria and ensuring compliance with insurance coding standards. Additional duties include: comprehensive patient assessments, orientation, development of Individualized Treatment Plans (ITP), and providing psychosocial support to both patients and their families.
The role necessitates strong interpersonal communication skills to effectively collaborate with the healthcare team, promoting best practices for optimal patient care. Responsibilities also extend to leading group exercise sessions, delivering educational presentations, and conducting non-invasive diagnostic evaluations such as 6-Minute Walk Tests (6MWT), spirometry, and physical performance assessments.
Qualifications
Candidates must possess an Associate's degree in Respiratory Care from an accredited program recognized by the Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care. A Bachelor of Science degree is preferred.
Licensure as a Respiratory Care Practitioner by the State of California is required, along with a minimum of three (3) years of experience in an acute care hospital setting, including at least one year in Emergency Department (ED) or Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Experience in Pulmonary Rehabilitation is preferred, particularly for those working within the Cardiopulmonary Wellness Center (CPWC). Knowledge of chronic lung disease pathophysiology and treatment is essential, along with experience in exercise training and education.
Certification Requirements
Candidates must be registered with the National Board for Respiratory Care (RRT) or hold registration as a Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT). For those in the Cardiopulmonary Wellness sector, RRT certification is mandatory, while RPFT certification is preferred.
Active membership with the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) is required, along with certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), both of which must be renewed bi-annually. Certification in the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is also encouraged, though not mandatory for CPWC roles.
Compensation
