Position Summary:

The Quality Assurance Inspector plays a crucial role in ensuring that both manufactured and procured components adhere to specified blueprint standards through the application of various tools and methodologies. This position involves the examination of parts and components related to diesel fuel injection systems and other manufactured items, with a focus on maintaining high-quality standards under minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducts comprehensive layouts of raw, semi-finished, and finished components, along with all types of tooling and dies.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in utilizing advanced inspection equipment, including CMM machines and comparators.
  • Identifies and resolves quality-related issues effectively.
  • Possesses thorough knowledge of testing instruments.
  • Applies Statistical Process Control principles to analyze and formalize data results.
  • Accountable for the quality and quantity of work produced.
  • Maintains a clean and organized workspace in accordance with housekeeping protocols.
  • Adheres to all safety regulations and practices within the plant and department.
  • Reports any deviations from established standards to the supervisor.
  • May perform all departmental functions as required.

Qualifications:

  • Mechanical aptitude to comprehend the interworking of components.
  • Ability to manage and enforce 5S processes.
  • Capable of leading, guiding, and supervising team members.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints.
  • Experienced in using inspection gauges such as micrometers, calipers, and vision systems.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.

Special Qualifications:

C.A.R.E. Station:

  • Identifies and reports quality issues.
  • May perform all departmental functions as needed.
  • Able to work in both debris and weld analysis roles.
  • Follows standard operating procedures for C.A.R.E., debris lab, and weld analysis.
  • Possesses a solid understanding of fuel pump operations.
  • Familiar with BIQS 15 Andon System Implementation and BIQS 13 Verification Station/Final Inspection/C.A.R.E.
  • Knowledgeable in the use of the required documents at any Verification/C.A.R.E. station.
  • Understands the C.A.R.E. station scanning system for totes and pump rejection.
  • Communicates effectively with production teams regarding suspect pumps.

Debris Analysis:

  • Ensures that assembly products and shipments meet cleanliness standards as outlined in blueprints.
  • Measures debris levels on components and cleaning washers at various production stages.
  • Utilizes techniques to collect and analyze debris samples using microscopes and analytical balances.
  • Records viscosity measurements of testing fluids used throughout the facility.
  • Inputs debris and fluid testing results into a designated database, notifying departmental heads of non-conformances.
  • Ensures component cleanliness meets specified requirements.
  • Measures and records magnetic particles using manual microscopes.
  • Operates automated microscopes for debris measurement and classification.
  • Maintains the cleanliness of the work environment through strict housekeeping practices.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma with additional training from a trade school.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a manufacturing or shop environment.
  • Prior experience in a leadership role is preferred.
  • Strong mathematical skills, including proficiency with decimals and both Metric and English measurement systems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Solid understanding of blueprint reading and GD&T principles.

Physical Requirements:

  • Willingness to perform repetitive tasks.
  • Good dexterity for handling small components and using precision tools.

Working Conditions:

  • Exposure to oils and fluids.
  • Willingness to work overtime, including weekends as needed.
  • Ability to work in confined, cool, and wet environments.
  • Capable of working independently for extended periods.
