Job Summary

Kaman Aerospace is seeking a skilled Machinist Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our machine shop, you will be responsible for setting up and operating conventional, special-purpose, and numerical control machines to manufacture metal parts with exacting tolerances and dimensions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform intricate hand grinding operations, including trimming parts, polishing surfaces, and blending metal parts to exact tolerances and dimensions.
  • Operate a series of machining operations, such as turning, boring, threading, and facing sheet metal pieces on castings, forgings, bar, and plate stock.
  • Interpret complicated blueprints, sketches, specifications, geometrical dimensions, and tolerances to solve problems related to work-holding arrangements, unusual materials, machine settings, tools, product specifications, and fabrication methods.
  • Plan the sequence of operations, number of cuts required, and method of setup, and select, mount, and align various specialized machine attachments and standard or improvised tooling.
  • Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points on material or work pieces as guides, and calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors, such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth/angle of cut.
  • Use a variety of machinist's hand tools and precision measuring instruments to perform first-piece OAP inspection and verify quality in accordance with SOP.
  • Follow all safety regulations and exercise care in handling parts and operating machinery.
  • Participate in cell or fabrication projects and assist with process improvements, methods, solutions, and procedures to enhance program quality, cost, and scheduling.

Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED, and additional instruction equivalent to 3 years of applied training in a particular or specialized occupation.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Knowledge of elementary geometry, algebra, and trigonometric principles.
  • Ability to interpret complicated drawings, specifications, charts, and tables.
  • Proficient with the use of various types of precision measuring instruments.
  • Capable of making minor modifications to NC/CNC equipment programs.
  • Experience with machine setup and G&M codes.
  • Able to use a personal computer to input data.

Pay and Benefits
  • Pay range: $23-30 per hour.
  • Shift differential: 1.25 per hour.
