Job Title: Chief Counsel General Counsel Government Section Attorney

The City of Cincinnati Solicitor's Office is seeking an attorney to serve as the Chief Counsel of the General Counsel/Government Section.

Job Summary:

The Chief Counsel will provide legal advice to the City's elected officials, City Manager, City departments, and City boards and commissions to facilitate the effective delivery of municipal services and implementation of City policies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide legal advice on a wide range of municipal issues, including constitutional law, public records, open meetings law, and ethics.
  • Draft legislation, including ordinances and resolutions.
  • Manage public records requests and provide training to clients on applicable legal topics.
  • Supervise attorneys and staff within the Section.
  • Research legal questions and evaluate the impact on City policies and procedures.
  • Provide legal guidance and written legal opinions to City departments and other City clients.
Requirements:
  • Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited academic institution.
  • Licensed to practice law in the State of Ohio.
  • Prior supervisory experience of attorneys in a legal or related field.
  • Experience working within or closely with a governmental organization or other complex organization.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Strong written analytical skill and ability to help other attorneys issue-spot and improve their written work product.
Work Environment:

Work in an office setting plus occasional remote work; exposure to computer screens; need to work closely with others.

Physical Conditions:

Duties require maintaining physical condition necessary for standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time.
