POSITION OVERVIEW:
A Certified Nursing Assistant plays a vital role within the healthcare team, delivering exceptional care to residents while adhering to established policies, resident rights, and the organization's core values.

REPORTING STRUCTURE:
This position reports directly to the Nurse on duty or Supervisors, with performance evaluations conducted annually by the Director of Nursing or Assistant Director of Nursing, incorporating feedback from Unit Nurses.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Actively engage as a collaborative team member, demonstrating respect, accountability, and professionalism towards residents, families, and colleagues while ensuring confidentiality.
  2. Adhere to the established hierarchy and fulfill all assigned duties within the scope of practice.
  3. Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including personal hygiene, grooming, bathing, and dressing, in accordance with policies.
  4. Implement and understand the individualized care plans addressing both physical and emotional needs of residents, including mobility and hygiene requirements.
  5. Possess knowledge of Resident Rights and the policies surrounding abuse and neglect, including reporting protocols.
  6. Comply with safety measures and demonstrate competency in equipment usage, ensuring adequate supply levels.
  7. Follow Infection Control protocols, including hand hygiene and maintaining a clean environment across all resident care areas.
  8. Support residents with elimination needs, documenting relevant information and adhering to bowel management protocols.
  9. Assist in rehabilitation efforts, promoting independence and mobility through appropriate techniques and safe lifting practices.
  10. Review the activity calendar at the start of each shift to ensure timely transfers of residents to and from activities.
  11. Facilitate admissions, discharges, and transport to appointments as necessary.
  12. Report any changes in resident condition, including signs of illness or distress, to the Nurse on duty.
  13. Measure and document vital signs, weight, and intake/output, reporting any abnormal findings to the Nurse.
  14. Participate in care conferences and contribute positively to the care planning process.

PERSONNEL POLICIES:
Adhere to all relevant personnel policies regarding attendance, breaks, meals, staff meetings, and dress code. Work schedules may be adjusted based on departmental needs to ensure optimal resident care.

COMPLIANCE AND QUALITY IMPROVEMENT:
Maintain a working knowledge of Corporate Compliance regulations and report any potential violations. Engage in Continuous Quality Improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery for both internal and external customers.

ETHICAL STANDARDS:
Uphold the highest ethical standards concerning confidentiality and discretion.

AGE-APPROPRIATE CARE:
Provide care tailored to the needs of adult and geriatric patients/residents.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
Must be certified as a Nurse Aide by the relevant state health department and possess current Heartsaver certification.

EXPERIENCE:
Prior experience as a Nursing Assistant is preferred.

QUALITIES:
Exhibit professionalism, teamwork, compassion, and concern for residents and colleagues.

SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS:
Availability to work weekends, holidays, and various shifts as needed.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:
This role requires prolonged standing and walking, as well as the ability to lift, move, and transport residents and equipment. Adaptability to various assignments and clinical areas is essential.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Regular exposure to unpleasant odors, sights, and bodily waste is expected.

HAZARDS:
Potential exposure to contagious diseases and risks of injury from unpredictable resident behavior.

EXPOSURE CATEGORY:
Category I: Tasks involve exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissues.
