POSITION OVERVIEW:


As a Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will be responsible for educating patients about the surgical services offered and delivering nursing care throughout the procedure and recovery phases. Your role will be crucial in ensuring that patient care aligns with our established protocols and operational standards.

Collaboration with the Director of Nursing, Front Office Coordinator, and fellow nursing staff will be essential in formulating daily care plans for our patients.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.

Assist in preparing the recovery area each clinic day, which includes restocking supplies, conducting narcotic counts, and preparing medications. Ensure that the emergency cart is fully stocked.

2.

Engage in patient follow-up activities, including managing nurse calls, scheduling post-procedure check-ups, providing necessary precautions, and consulting with physicians regarding care plans.

3.

Prior to elective procedures, offer supportive education, review pregnancy options, ensure informed consent, and discuss contraceptive choices with patients.

4.

Admit, assess, and discharge patients in the recovery area, monitoring for any complications and consulting with physicians as necessary.

5.

Administer medications as prescribed by physicians and document accordingly. Intravenous therapy will be performed within the RN's scope of practice.

6.

Assist physicians during procedures, particularly in administering conscious sedation and monitoring patients during recovery.

7.

Perform Surgical Assistant duties as required and support the Surgical Assistant as needed.

8.

Participate in on-call rotations, documenting and following up on after-hours calls as needed.

9.

Support the Surgical Nursing Coordinator with clinic operations and patient assistance.

10.

Stay informed about and adhere to Planned Parenthood protocols and operational procedures.

11.

Actively engage in all health center initiatives related to patient care, customer service, productivity, and clinic efficiency.

12.

Utilize the practice management system and electronic medical records effectively.

13.

Perform additional duties as assigned by your supervisor.



QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current RN license required; experience in OB/GYN, recovery room, or emergency settings preferred.
  • Maintain an active nursing license and adhere to the "Standards of Safe Nursing Practice for Registered Nurses" as outlined by the relevant nursing board.
  • ACLS certification is mandatory.
  • Bilingual skills (Spanish/English) are advantageous.
  • Familiarity with contraceptive technologies is preferred.
  • Experience in client education and crisis intervention is beneficial.
  • Proven ability to manage medical emergencies effectively.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Proficient in using computers and multi-key telephones.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Commitment to treating patients with dignity and respect.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with individuals from diverse backgrounds in a non-judgmental manner.
  • Maintain confidentiality and sensitivity regarding clients' healthcare choices.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours, including evenings and weekends, and participate in after-hours medical call systems.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and perform tasks that require sitting, standing, bending, walking, and using hands and fingers.
  • Ability to travel to various work sites as required.
  • Potential exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous materials.
  • May encounter cleaning agents and unpleasant odors.
