Sterile Processing Manager

As a Sterile Processing Manager at Kaiser Permanente, you will oversee the services and departments responsible for providing patient care equipment and surgical instrumentation reprocessing functions. This includes collection, decontamination, assembly, sterilization, high-level disinfection, and distribution. You will manage the surgical instrument inventory and supplies, ensuring departmental activities are supported. As a subject matter expert, you will provide guidance on product reprocessing needs and develop and ensure compliance with departmental budgets. You will also manage fixed departmental equipment and plant property, working collaboratively with other departments and units to ensure efficient, safe, and effective instrument and equipment availability.
Essential Responsibilities:- Supervise SPD technicians and SPD staff to achieve established operational performance and quality goals.
- Manage all aspects of sterile processing, including collection, decontamination, assembly, sterilization, high-level disinfection, distribution, and inventory management.
- Maintain continued education and proficiency in the field of Sterile Processing operations and equipment through education, literature, and seminars.
- Serve as a technical expert regarding product reprocessing, decontamination, and sterilization for the facility.
- Demonstrate correct department processes and procedures to staff.
- Ensure optimal sterile processing performance through quality control and quality assurance of all Sterile Processing activities and equipment.
- Monitor and report equipment operational status.
- Recommend equipment changes, upgrades, and additions to meet manufacturers' instructions for use (IFU) for all items processed.
Assure departmental standards of operation and policies are in compliance with regulatory and professional agencies, including but not limited to CMS, TJC, AAMI, AORN, and APIC. Facilitate the recruitment and selection of department staff, providing ongoing feedback and documenting performance evaluations. Develop a comprehensive departmental orientation for new staff and ensure staff work is performed within prescribed technical and safety standards. Provide or coordinate instructions and in-service on new products, procedures, and equipment to identify and prevent resource loss and maintain patient and staff safety.
Requirements:- Minimum three (3) years of experience in an acute or ambulatory care sterile processing department.
- Minimum one (1) or more years of supervisory experience.
- Minimum one (1) or more years of experience in preparing for local, state, and/or federal survey and/or The Joint Commission.
- Certification in Leadership Certification (CHL).
- Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS).
- Five (5) years of experience in an acute-care sterile processing department.
- Three (3) years of progressive supervisory experience.
- One (1) year or more supervisory experience in a union environment.
