Job Summary

The Refugee School Liaison position at Inspiritus Inc. is a vital role in supporting refugee students and their families in achieving academic success. As a key member of our team, you will serve as a bridge between home and school, providing essential academic supports and advocacy to empower families in their child's educational endeavors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Communicate with Parents: Encourage parental involvement in school functions and events, and facilitate communication between home and school.
  • American School Orientation: Conduct orientation sessions for newcomer students to help them understand the American school system.
  • Student Registration: Register current and newly arrived refugee students for school.
  • School Advocacy: Advocate for refugee students and their families, providing training and support to local schools to better serve this population.
  • Parent Workshops: Conduct workshops and support family literacy building activities to empower parents in their child's education.
  • Educational Assessments: Conduct and document educational assessments as required by program funders.
  • Student Recruitment: Actively recruit students who are recommended for services by case managers, teachers, counselors, administrators, and the community.
  • Information Flow: Ensure effective communication between the school system and parents of students.
  • Relationship Building: Cultivate strong relationships with stakeholders to leverage influence and support the program.
  • Professional Development: Attend meetings, training, workshops, and conferences to enhance job knowledge and skills.
  • Day-to-Day Operations: Manage day-to-day operations, including school appointments and communications.
  • Transportation and Logistics: Plan transportation and logistics for refugee families and participants as needed for school engagements.
  • Community Engagement: Attend school and community meetings to gather information to share with parents.
  • Program Goals: Ensure the goals and objectives of the program are accomplished within the prescribed time frame and within budget.
  • Reporting and Compliance: Keep the Youth Services Coordinator informed of issues or challenges, and help respond to monitoring and audit reports.
  • Partnerships and Relationships: Create and manage partnerships and relationships with service providers, partner agencies, public systems, and community volunteers.
  • Professional Boundaries: Maintain personal and professional boundaries in the performance of the job.
  • Client Relationships: Forge mutually respectful partnerships with clients, co-workers, and volunteers.
  • Funding and Resources: Assist in securing funding for current and new programs.
  • Public Relations: Participate in Inspiritus functions and public relations activities.
  • Professional Development: Participate in training and professional conferences to stay current with trends.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures, and instructions.
