Job Purpose:

The BH Intake Coordinator plays a vital role in providing exceptional customer service during the patient access/intake process, ensuring efficiency, cost reduction, and service improvement throughout the revenue cycle.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure performance meets professional, ethical, and legislated standards.
  • Adhere to Behavioral Health Standards of Care and agency policies in providing services to patients.
  • Maintain cultural competency and commitment to patients.
  • Coordinate intake processes, including referrals, eligibility determinations, and service enrollment.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with referral sources, educating them on eligibility criteria, referral processes, and intake procedures.
  • Utilize evidence-based techniques, such as trauma-informed care and motivational interviewing, to engage patients and provide support.
  • Follow up with referrals, making a minimum of three attempts to contact patients in accordance with Behavioral Health policies and procedures.
  • Accept walk-ins for urgent intakes and connect clients to Behavioral Health staff for crisis intervention as needed.
  • Respect patients' right to choose their preferred agency or decline services.
  • Collaborate with Senior Patient Registration Specialist to ensure accurate financial screenings and payor source identification.
  • Conduct comprehensive pre-screenings of functional impairments and assign patients to appropriate service models.
  • Schedule appointments with Behavioral Health service providers, considering factors such as patient age, insurance provider, and clinician capacity.
  • Follow up with no-shows to initial appointments, rescheduling if patients remain agreeable to services.
Requirements:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Associate's Degree required; Bachelor's Degree preferred in healthcare, human resources, counseling, public health, psychology, or social work.
  • Required licensure with the appropriate state licensing board (if applicable).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
  • Experience in a social service, FQHC, or public setting preferred.
Work Environment:

The work environment is a moderate noise level, with the ability to work in a confined area and sit at a computer terminal for extended periods.

Travel Requirements:

Driving during the workday and local or out-of-state travel may be required to perform job duties.
