Job Summary

About the Role

This Radiology Technologist position involves operating x-ray equipment to produce high-quality radiographs of designated body parts as specified by physicians. You will be responsible for maneuvering portable radiographic equipment in patient care areas and surgery as required. Additionally, you will assist radiologists in performing fluoroscopic examinations, operate all components of the Digital Imaging System, and perform radiographic procedures on Level I Trauma patients to expedite immediate care of critically ill patients.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for exams, obtain and record history, explain procedures, position patients, and ensure their comfort.
  • Adhere to isolation/sterile techniques and radiation safety procedures.
  • Verify patient and procedure prior to starting exams.
  • Review radiographs to ensure optimum quality, report environmental/equipment problems to appropriate personnel, and perform required computer functions for RIS/HIS systems.
  • Label all radiographs appropriately following department's established criteria and standards.
  • Maintain professionalism, cooperation, and positive interaction with coworkers, physicians, patients, and families.
  • Participate in assessment of own learning needs, attend in-services, and maintain state license and national board certification.
  • Ensure cleanliness of equipment and work area, maintain inventory of supplies, and use Universal Precautions in daily performance of procedures.
  • Comply with procedural standards in the care of children and adult populations, assist with proper positioning and restraining of children and elderly patients as necessary, and provide resource information as directed.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you should possess a strong understanding of radiographic principles, excellent communication skills, and basic knowledge of R.I.S. and computer systems. Additionally, you must be able to work weekends, holidays, and emergency call-backs, and may be exposed to radiation during procedures. The ideal candidate will have a certificate or associate degree in Radiology Technology, previous experience is desirable.
