Nuclear Engineer Job Description

This is a training opportunity in the Nuclear Engineering and Planning Department (NEPD) to gain the competencies necessary to perform Nuclear Engineering duties.

Responsibilities
  • Perform assigned portions of a major overhaul project under the cognizance of a senior graded Nuclear Engineer.
  • Analyze, evaluate, and resolve conflicting, confusing or inadequate operational design specification requirements.
  • Prepare engineering instructions for the overhaul and repair of nuclear reactor plant piping systems and mechanical components.
  • Identify material requirements, quality levels, and inspection requirements.
  • Prepare off-station correspondence such as change requests, trouble records or liaison action requests.
Requirements
  • Eligibility for this training opportunity is limited to current GS, Engineering Technicians in Code 2300.
  • Applicants must meet the education requirements described below.
  • Appropriate documentation must be provided at time of application to support experience or educational requirements.
Education Requirements

Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM):

  • Successful completion of a professional engineering degree.
  • OR Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.
  • OR Evidence of having successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination or any other written test required for professional registration by an engineering licensure board in the various States, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico.
  • OR Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above).
