We are seeking a highly skilled and certified Medical Assistant I to join our team at UNC Health. As a Medical Assistant I, you will provide routine clinical and administrative support to providers and other healthcare team members in an outpatient clinic setting.
Key Responsibilities- Perform rooming and intake processes, collecting and documenting patient data, including vital signs, height, weight, and medical and social history.
- Collect patient and family data, including medical and social history.
- Review patient's current medication list, allergies, and preferred pharmacy.
- Assist providers as directed during treatments, examinations, and procedures.
- Collect specimens and perform phlebotomy.
- Administer medications under the direction of a provider.
- Perform tests, such as EKG and eye exams, under the direction of a provider.
- Review patient records to determine whether patients require routine health screenings.
- Ensure exam and procedure rooms contain appropriate supplies, equipment, forms, and educational materials.
- Provide patients with after-visit, follow-up, self-care, or procedural instructions and educational materials as directed.
- Prepare, clean, stock, and maintain exam and treatment rooms.
- Clean and sterilize instruments.
- Assist with patient registration, check-in/check-out, appointment scheduling, and scheduling of tests and treatments, and referrals.
- Answer clinic telephones and assist with in-basket tasks under the direction of a provider or nurse.
- Assist in emergency situations as directed by a provider or nurse.
- Medical Assistant certification by either the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), National Health Career Association (CCMA), National Association of Health Professionals (NRCMA), or National Center for Competency Testing (NCMA).
- Basic Life Support Certification from American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) required.
- Prior medical assistant or medical assistant externship experience preferred.
