Position Overview:

The Center for International Education (CIE) at the University of Northern Colorado is dedicated to fostering global engagement through comprehensive internationalization for students, faculty, and staff. The CIE team is responsible for developing and executing international initiatives that enhance teaching, learning, research, and global involvement across the university.

The CIE provides extensive support in various areas, including (i) global learning opportunities; (ii) guidance on immigration and tax regulations; (iii) development of international partnerships; (iv) comprehensive assistance for international students; and (v) on-campus global programming that cultivates global cultural competencies.


The Intensive English Program (IEP) operates under the CIE's umbrella.

This CEA-accredited academic language program is designed to meet the diverse linguistic and cultural needs of English language learners while also offering professional development for EFL/ESL educators.

IEP features a 7-level curriculum that combines cross-cultural immersion with targeted English language instruction, providing a unique college preparatory experience aimed at ensuring students' academic success and career readiness.


Key Responsibilities:

Teaching
- Instruct English language learners in courses such as Reading and Writing, Listening and Speaking, Grammar, and Academic Vocabulary.
- Conduct classes at scheduled times, either online or in person.
- Develop instructional plans aligned with the IEP curriculum and individual student learning outcomes.
- Administer assessments to evaluate student progress.
- Maintain and report student attendance records.

Reporting and Student Support:
- Timely submission of mid-term and final grade reports.
- Provide constructive feedback and consultations based on assessment results.
- Hold regular student office hours, both in-person and online (2 hours per week).
- Upload final grade reports, exams, and assessment rubrics to a designated location.

Professional Development:

- Attend and engage in IEP faculty meetings.
- Stay updated on best practices in TESOL and adapt teaching methods accordingly.
- Collaborate with fellow CIE instructors and staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

- Final semester of a Master's degree in TESOL/ESL, Applied Linguistics, or a related field.
- Experience working with non-native English speakers.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Established digital literacy.
- Effective critical thinking and reasoning abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Master's degree in TESOL/ESL, Applied Linguistics, or a related field.
- At least 3 years of ESL teaching experience, either domestically or internationally.
- Experience in curriculum design and assessment creation.
- Proficiency in online teaching and utilizing Learning Management Systems (LMS) for course delivery and assessment.
