Role Summary: This position involves working with families to establish goals and objectives tailored to the needs of students with visual impairments. The role includes supporting transitions through various educational stages and facilitating a smooth shift from school to adult life.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist families in developing personalized educational objectives related to visual impairments.
  • Support transitions between early intervention, preschool, elementary, middle, and high school.
  • Provide direct instruction and collaborate with other educators to enhance learning experiences.
  • Teach essential skills including visual efficiency, braille, assistive technology, and social skills.
  • Work closely with parents, teachers, and specialists to ensure a coordinated approach to education.
  • Adapt learning environments to meet individual visual needs.
  • Model effective instructional strategies and techniques.
  • Develop and source adapted materials as necessary.
  • Maintain up-to-date records on each student's visual health and educational progress.

Qualifications:

  • Valid teaching certification in the field of Visual Impairments (PK-12).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on cultural sensitivity.

  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality regarding student information.
