Job Summary

This position is responsible for coordinating a variety of student services. Students served may primarily take courses on NSU's main campus, on one of the branch campuses, and/or online. The Coordinator will be responsible for providing Student Disability Services/Educational Access services and outreach/case management services (including follow-up) to students identified as at-risk for attrition. The position will also coordinate medical/emergency withdrawals, and referrals to campus and community resources as needed. Travel to and from all 3 NSU campuses required.

Major Duties
  • Mediates appropriate accommodations between registered ADA students and faculty.
  • Coordinates outreach, case management, and follow-up efforts to students identified as at-risk.
  • Completes and maintains student records. The three primary record-keeping systems used in this role are Maxient, Titanium, and Banner.
  • Provides guidance and information to students and faculty regarding ADA related issues.
  • Facilitates appropriate accommodations for registered students, including arrangements for sign language interpreters.
  • Remains informed of current ADA related issues and laws through professional journals and conferences.
  • Engages in collaborative efforts with partner institutions to create seamless transitions for transferring students.
  • Performs and processes intake for the registration of students to receive services.
  • Utilizes current software and provides resources regarding software features.
  • Tracks and produces ADA student services reports for department and national surveys.
  • Makes presentations related to scope of responsibility to faculty, staff, and students.
  • Refers students to on and off campus resources and advocates directly with other areas to maximize student success.
  • Participate in staff meetings, supervisory meetings, and other meetings as needed.
  • Assist with processing emergency and medical withdrawals.
  • Complies with accessibility of public communications and events on campus and online.
  • Consults regularly with supervisor(s).
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge Required by the Position
  • Knowledge of Americans with Disabilities Act requirements and best practices.
  • Knowledge of adult learning theory and universal design.
  • Knowledge of case management skills.
  • Skill in the operation of computers and job related software programs.
  • Skill in decision making and problem solving.
  • Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
Complexity/Scope of Work

The work consists of varied program coordination duties. The need to manage different personalities and to respond to complex and sensitive situations contributes to the complexity of the position. The work consists of varied duties in the coordination of educational access for university students. The unique needs of each student contribute to the complexity of the position. Success in this position contributes to the provision of equal access to educational and enrichment experiences for students experiencing access barriers.
