Job Summary:

The Architect, Senior Design Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the design team, providing business input related to architecture and engineering, and overseeing client programs, department managers, and staff. This role requires a licensed architect with a strong background in supervising an architectural practice, as well as expertise in drawings, specifications, and building materials.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the department's daily operations and performance
  • Develop internal processes and protocols to ensure the design team runs effectively
  • Assist leadership with department business management
  • Help set goals, strategy, staffing, scheduling, identification of risks, project tracking, invoicing, and accruals
  • Support business growth and market expansion
  • Identify new business opportunities for new and existing clients
  • Prepare project proposals and change orders requests and submit to clients for approval
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients, potential clients, subcontractors, and vendors
  • Meet with design project managers and report workload, project status, and staffing needs
  • Provide architectural knowledge and technical expertise
  • Provide building code and zoning ordinance expertise to design staff
  • Provide ADA expertise to design staff
  • Assist in interviewing and hiring new team staff
  • Supervise other design team members
  • Develop and monitor quality and production standards for projects
  • Foster the personal and professional development of staff
  • Responsible for the onboarding and training of new staff
  • Eligible for Designer of Record signing and sealing responsibilities, based on business need
Requirements:
  • Licensed Architect with a 4-year degree in Architecture, Engineering, or equivalent
  • Masters Degree, preferred
  • 12+ years related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated mastery of supervising an architectural practice with comprehensive knowledge of architectural principles, practices, and advanced techniques
  • Expertise in drawings, specifications, and building materials
  • Ability to execute and coordinate multiple projects at a time
  • Experience in multi-site projects preferred
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, Illustrator, Photoshop, SketchUp, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Smartsheet, and 3ds Max
