Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Funeral Director/Embalmer to join our team. As a Funeral Director/Embalmer, you will be responsible for providing exceptional service to families, coordinating funeral arrangements, and ensuring that all aspects of the funeral process are handled with dignity and respect.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate funeral arrangements, including removals, transfers, and embalming services
  • Provide support to families during the funeral planning process, including facilitating Arrangements Conferences and discussing available life insurance and benefits
  • Collaborate with funeral services counselors/advisors to present cemetery property and merchandise options
  • Review and authorize merchandise and service contract revisions
  • Preside as Master of Ceremonies for visitation, funeral, or graveside services
  • Inspect deceased, adjust casket dressing, and communicate concerns to preparation staff
  • Interact with families to fulfill death care requests and obtain leads for pre-need services
  • Perform event planning responsibilities, including resource planning and ordering of music, flowers, or catering
  • Produce memorial products, such as obituaries and online memorials
  • Attend community or charity events to represent and promote SCI
  • Verify casket and lining according to contract, dress casket, and lay deceased
  • Maintain preparation room, clean soiled equipment, and promote a safe work environment

Requirements

  • Graduated from an accredited school or college of mortuary science
  • Current Funeral Director and Embalmer dual license within the practicing state
  • Valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving record
  • Industry experience preferred
  • Process and results-oriented, motivated to keep projects moving ahead
  • Positive attitude, drive to advance understanding of the industry and business, and high self-motivation
  • Ability to build professional and trusting business relations
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills
  • Public speaking skills with the ability to influence and gain consensus
  • Proficient using databases in automated processes
  • Proficient MS Office skills

Work Environment

  • Work is both indoors and outdoors during all seasons and weather
  • Professional business attire required when in contact with families
  • Frequent, continuous periods of time sitting or standing, up to 6 hours per day
  • Frequent climbing stairs to access buildings
  • Physical effort requiring manual dexterity, including paperwork, calculators, computers, and phone usage
  • Ability to push and pull up to 150 pounds on flat and inclined flooring or ramps

Work Hours

  • Flexibility of availability may be necessary as services may occur outside of normal business hours
  • Working nights and weekends is frequently necessary
