Position Overview

Summary: The Mathematics Support Specialist plays a vital role in promoting equitable educational opportunities for all learners within the Stoughton Area School District's evolving Multi-Level System of Supports (MLSS). This role is dedicated to identifying and addressing the varied mathematical needs of students, employing evidence-based interventions to enhance math proficiency and progress. The Mathematics Support Specialist collaborates with educators, administrators, and families to foster a comprehensive and inclusive approach to math education.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assessment and Data Analysis:
  2. Conduct thorough assessments to pinpoint students' mathematical needs.
  3. Analyze assessment data to guide instructional choices and tailor personalized math interventions.
  4. Work with school-based teams to track student progress and modify interventions as necessary.

Development and Implementation of Interventions:Collaborate with the 6-12 math team to develop district-approved interventions aligned with the core curriculum.Design and execute evidence-based math interventions, customized for individual, small group, and tiered needs.May lead or co-facilitate classes at the Middle and/or High School levels.Utilize diverse instructional strategies and resources to engage students in meaningful mathematical activities.Partner with classroom teachers to ensure interventions align with the general curriculum and support classroom instruction.

Collaboration and Professional Development:Collaborate with educators, administrators, and support staff to establish a cohesive approach to math within the MLSS framework.Provide and engage in professional development opportunities focused on effective math instruction and intervention techniques.Encourage a culture of continuous improvement through ongoing collaboration and professional learning communities.

Equity and Inclusion:Implement strategies to guarantee equitable access to math interventions for all students, including those from diverse backgrounds.Advocate for and apply culturally responsive teaching practices to meet the unique needs of each learner.Support the establishment and maintenance of an inclusive and culturally affirming educational environment.

Family and Community Engagement:Maintain regular communication with families to share progress, discuss intervention strategies, and provide resources for supporting math at home.Organize and participate in family math events to strengthen the connection between home and school.

Documentation and Reporting:Keep accurate records of student assessments, progress monitoring, and intervention plans.Provide regular updates to school and district leadership regarding the effectiveness of math interventions.

Qualifications:

Possess a current Wisconsin Professional Educator License in 1400-Early Adolescence-Adolescence Math or equivalent (required).Preferably have at least five years of successful secondary classroom teaching experience in mathematics.Completion of training in instructional coaching, or willingness to complete within one year of hire (District will provide this opportunity).Experience in designing and implementing evidence-based math interventions.Familiarity with Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MLSS) frameworks.Strong collaboration and communication skills.Commitment to equity and inclusive practices.

The position requires some periods of standing while teaching/training. The employee frequently lifts or moves objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Environment: This job operates in a professional indoor environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and printers/scanners. This position will have frequent interactions with persons who are often working with children and is required to drive to conduct work.
