Role Description
The Stoughton Area School District is currently seeking applications for a full-time Educational Support Specialist. This role involves working closely with educational staff to meet the diverse needs of students throughout the academic year.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the development and execution of instructional plans for individual and small groups of students under the guidance of a teacher.
- Prepare classroom materials and resources tailored to individual student needs.
- Provide personal care and support to students in developing self-help skills as necessary.
- Collaborate with special education staff to understand and implement student IEPs effectively.
- Foster a cooperative environment among students, families, staff, and administration to promote a positive educational experience.
- Contribute to the creation and application of individualized behavior plans for students.
- Encourage acceptance and understanding of diverse backgrounds among students and staff.
- Utilize problem-solving skills to address conflicts and challenges that arise.
- Support community-based and vocational instruction as needed.
- Perform clerical duties as required.
Physical Requirements:
Frequent physical activity is required, including bending, lifting, and walking to fulfill essential functions. The role may involve lifting weights of up to 40 pounds regularly.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Carry out medical tasks as directed by healthcare protocols.
- Assist in clerical tasks such as preparing instructional materials.
- Support students in various settings, including classrooms and during extracurricular activities.
- Help students with transportation needs, ensuring their safety.
- Engage in professional development opportunities.
- Act as a resource for the multidisciplinary team during student evaluations.
- Complete other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- A commitment to working with all students.
- Eligibility for state certification as an educational assistant.
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- First aid and CPR certification must be obtained upon employment.
- Strong communication skills are essential for effective collaboration with parents, students, and staff.
- Familiarity with classroom technology is preferred.
- Completion of two years of higher education or an associate degree is preferred.
