Job Title: Modeling and Simulation Scientist

Join the Intelligence and Space Research (ISR) Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory, where we design, build, and operate innovative measurement and detection systems. Our interdisciplinary teams of engineers, technicians, and scientists work in a dynamic R&D environment, solving complex scientific and national security problems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and improve modeling code bases in Python, C++, and/or Fortran
  • Ensure compliance with technical and performance requirements
  • Run validation and verification studies to assess model performance
  • Apply models to ad-hoc analysis tasks and author reports on model performance
  • Coordinate with other national laboratories on model development
Requirements:
  • Experience with version control software and computational physics or a related simulation-focused field
  • Familiarity with foundational statistical and physical concepts, and proficiency with Python and compiled languages
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate ideas clearly and work independently and as a member of a team
  • Ability to obtain a DOE Q clearance, which normally requires US citizenship
Additional Requirements for Scientist 3:
  • Experience developing and writing successful research grant proposals, and the ability to lead small teams
  • Experience mentoring junior staff, students, or postdocs
Education and Experience:
  • Position requires a Bachelor's degree in a STEM field and 4 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Position requires a Master's degree in a STEM field and 6 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
