Conducts interviews, selects, mentors, and leads a team of supervisors and associates dedicated to specific product categories within the designated area. Exemplifies the behaviors necessary to provide exceptional customer service, maintain product availability, and ensure a clean and safe shopping environment. Identifies and addresses any associate relations issues, taking appropriate action and escalating to senior management or HR when necessary. Ensures the execution of all service, reset, pricing, and operational initiatives in the assigned area by monitoring activities, providing feedback, and making necessary adjustments. Recognizes any obstacles to exceptional service and communicates solutions promptly to ensure that operations do not hinder customer interactions with products.

Operational Management

Oversees store opening and closing procedures. Manages expenses, including payroll and other controllable costs, ensuring that staffing aligns with the forecasted payroll plan. Maintains awareness of industry trends in service, sales, and operations, sharing insights and applying knowledge as appropriate. Identifies sales opportunities and inventory gaps, developing specific action plans to enhance product availability, sales, and profit margins. Seeks opportunities within departments to improve the customer experience and boost sales. Anticipates and addresses operational challenges that could affect customer service levels or store sales objectives. Monitors the safe operation of store equipment, addressing any safety violations with associates. Promotes a culture of safety, security, and loss prevention throughout the store, ensuring that all entry points are secured and that any signs of theft are reported appropriately.

Manager-on-Duty Responsibilities

Provides comprehensive leadership for the store, enhancing engagement, customer service, and operational efficiency. Conducts store walkthroughs, observing interactions between customers and associates, providing real-time coaching to ensure effective customer engagement and sales. Ensures departments are adequately staffed based on customer traffic, adjusting associate shifts as necessary. Manages associate responses to customer inquiries and requests. Ensures that aisles remain clean, safe, and organized. Directs non-manager-on-duty activities, such as customer complaints and management approvals, to the appropriate leaders.

Specific Responsibilities for the Assistant Store Manager

Oversees all reset, service, and pricing activities within the store, including seasonal Live Nursery services. Teaches and demonstrates effective use of the company's selling and service model. Supports promotional execution through various merchandising initiatives and ensures promotional signage is ready. Ensures accuracy in product location and space through effective execution and feedback during resets and service activities. In addition to the above responsibilities, this individual may be assigned additional duties as needed.

Qualifications:

Minimum of 2 years of experience leading associates in a retail setting. At least 3 years of experience in a fast-paced, cross-functional work environment. A minimum of 1 year of experience performing manager-on-duty responsibilities, including overseeing daily store operations. At least 1 year of experience directly managing a team of sales associates in retail or consumer service. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to obtain any necessary sales-related licensure or registration as required by law.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in retail store logistics. 5 years of experience leading service associates in retail or consumer service. 5 years of experience managing a team of sales associates in retail or consumer service. 5 years of experience leading support or operations associates in retail or consumer service. 3 years of experience performing manager-on-duty responsibilities. Experience in the home improvement retail sector. Broad knowledge of various product categories, including flooring, cabinets, appliances, and lighting. Familiarity with store computer systems. Certification in a related area is a plus.
