JOB SUMMARY:
Delivers outstanding customer support to OSS Health patients by confirming insurance coverage, determining the patient's financial responsibilities, providing written financial estimates, and collaborating with patients and companies on payment plans.
This role will also assist the Patient Navigator in ensuring thorough coordination of care for patients and their families/caregivers, aiming to remove obstacles to timely treatment, facilitate navigation through the healthcare system, coordinate interactions with healthcare providers, enhance patient and provider satisfaction, maintain communication with employers, and serve as the initial point of contact for patients and employers.
Education:
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required OR a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience.
Qualifications:
- At least one year of experience in a customer service capacity is preferred.
- Two years of experience in insurance and billing processes is preferred.
- One year of experience in Orthopedic or hospital settings is preferred.
- Must have a strong understanding of medical insurance and billing practices, including HMO, PPO, and indemnity plans. Must be knowledgeable about the entire billing process.
- Experience with Medent or CPSI software is preferred.
- Exceptional customer service skills, strong interpersonal abilities, and critical thinking skills are essential.
- Professional verbal and written communication skills are necessary to interact effectively with all staff, physicians, patients, and family members.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team is required.
- Strong organizational skills with a customer-focused approach are necessary.
- Ability to prioritize tasks effectively is essential.
- Competence in using automated appointment scheduling and registration systems, as well as database software, is required.
- Basic knowledge of managed care is preferred.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Generates invoices for patients and companies based on services provided at OSS Health.
- Tracks balances for all Company Direct Patients and Companies.
- Serves as the billing liaison for the Sports Medicine Department.
- Negotiates payment arrangements with patients and companies for outstanding balances.
- Acts as the patient's concierge from initial contact through the completion of services, ensuring a superior patient experience.
- Handles incoming phone calls promptly and professionally, delivering exceptional customer service to each caller.
- Assists in posting payments received from patients and companies to their accounts.
- Resolves account discrepancies within the billing system.
- Educates patients, families, and significant others; serves as an information resource for healthcare professionals, patients, and the public regarding OSS Health procedures.
- Collects and analyzes data from patients and employers regarding barriers, healthcare experiences, and overall satisfaction.
- Adheres to established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to communicate effectively with staff, peers, physicians, and the public. Proficiency in speaking and understanding English is required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Light physical effort; involves some standing, walking, bending, reaching, and manual dexterity to operate a keyboard and other equipment.
