Senior Nuclear Materials Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Chemist to join our team at the Naval Nuclear Laboratory.
About the RoleThis is a dynamic and innovative environment where you will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge research and development projects related to nuclear fuel materials and systems.
As a Senior Chemist, you will be responsible for:
- Developing and implementing optimized process parameters for the research and testing of nuclear fuel materials.
- Collaborating with a team of engineers, laboratory, facility, and compliance organizations to enable and conduct test programs.
- Planning, designing, modeling, analyzing, manufacturing, and deploying laboratory equipment, including nuclear, chemical, mechanical, structural, and electrical components and systems.
- Documenting progress, analyzing results, and conducting presentations as needed.
- Occasional travel to domestic vendors (3 to 6 times per year).
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science-related field and 6 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science-related field and 4 years of relevant experience; or PhD degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science-related field and 1 year of relevant experience.
- Experience with materials science, control systems, and chemical engineering.
- Experience with data analytics, statistical design of experiments, machine learning.
- Experience with software programming skills in LabVIEW and Python environments.
- Experience in the core material and core manufacturing technical areas.
- Experience with core material vendor contract and production oversight.
This position is targeted at engineers interested in the research, development, and deployment of equipment and facilities for the research production of novel nuclear materials, components, and systems.
Preferred skills include:
- BS, MS, or PhD from an accredited college in Chemical Engineering, Ceramic Engineering, or Materials Science and Engineering (or similar).
- Experience with materials science, control systems, and chemical engineering.
- Experience with data analytics, statistical design of experiments, machine learning.
- Experience with software programming skills in LabVIEW and Python environments.
- Experience in the core material and core manufacturing technical areas.
- Experience with core material vendor contract and production oversight.

The annual salary for this position is $92,145.20, based on candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
