Job OverviewThe Shipyard Field Engineering team is in search of motivated individuals to join our Reactor Plant Contractors' Office (RPCO).
This role offers significant growth and development opportunities, providing a high degree of autonomy. Positions are available in Integrated Plant Testing and Refueling Services.
This hands-on role allows you to play a crucial part in coordinating the efforts of various stakeholders to guarantee the success of naval nuclear ship maintenance and construction.
The Test Engineer role necessitates 8-10 months of in-house technical qualification, while the Reactor Servicing Engineer role requires approximately 6 months of in-house technical qualification (less with prior applicable experience).
Upon successful completion of the technical training at designated laboratories, candidates will be relocated to the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.
Key ResponsibilitiesRPCO Field Engineers serve as independent representatives at nuclear-capable shipyards and Naval Bases.
They engage in high-visibility work with extensive responsibilities, including:
- Providing technical support, consultation, and oversight.
- Conducting installation, testing, diagnosis, troubleshooting, and repair of complex equipment and nuclear systems.
- Interacting directly with ship's force, senior shipyard leadership, and Naval Reactors.
Field engineers proactively identify and mitigate issues to prevent impacts on costs and delivery schedules. They offer technical guidance for problem resolution and ensure compliance with contractual obligations. Our engineers research, assess, and recommend new products and equipment upgrades as necessary.
As this is a career development opportunity, it is highly recommended that candidates return to one of the laboratory locations after completing a 5-year field assignment to further their careers as leaders within the organization.
QualificationsRequired:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related science field with 2 years of relevant experience; or
- Master's degree in engineering or a related science field with 1 year of relevant experience; or
- Current or previous qualification as EOOW in the Nuclear Operations Program; or
- Qualification as SRE.
Preferred:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in applying innovative solutions to enhance performance.
- Prior operational or design experience in the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program is desirable but not mandatory.
- Demonstrated leadership and mentoring capabilities.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to various tasks and responsibilities.
- Experience with the US Navy Nuclear Fleet and/or nuclear-capable shipyards.

Pay Range: $76,000 - $117,000 annually. Salary is based on experience, qualifications, and market considerations.
