Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Automotive Technician I to join our team at Madera County Fleet Services. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing a variety of skilled inspection, diagnosis, maintenance, servicing, and repair work on County automotive and emergency equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect, locate, and diagnose mechanical and body defects on County automotive and emergency equipment
  • Operate automotive diagnostic computer and scanning equipment and systems
  • Perform complete brake service, overhauls, repairs, and adjusts transmissions, differentials, clutches, and engines
  • Replace or repair faulty parts, including wheel bearings, oil seals, shock absorbers, exhaust systems, steering mechanisms, computer control systems, emission control systems, and other parts and equipment
  • Perform smog inspections on County vehicles and related mechanic repairs as required
  • Drive vehicles from various vendor shops and sites, test safety and drivability
  • Maintain records on time and material used, road test repaired equipment, and repair, replace, and balance tires
Requirements
  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade
  • Three (3) or more months of experience in maintenance, mechanical, and repair work on automotive equipment
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain within one year of appointment, an appropriate California driver license
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain within one year of appointment, appropriate mobile air conditioning certification
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain within one year of appointment, an appropriate smog license
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain within one year of appointment, appropriate Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications
