POSITION SUMMARY:

The Facilities Maintenance Specialist plays a crucial role in the upkeep and repair of campus buildings and facilities. This position involves performing a variety of semi-skilled tasks related to the maintenance and operation of the institution's infrastructure. The specialist is also expected to respond to emergencies outside of regular hours and assist the Facilities team during adverse weather conditions. Reporting directly to the Director of Facilities, this role is essential for maintaining a safe and functional environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct maintenance and repairs on buildings, including tasks such as painting, cleaning, and general upkeep.
  • Assist with various maintenance duties, which may involve heavy lifting and the use of protective gear.
  • Support outdoor maintenance efforts, including snow removal, landscaping, and general grounds care.
  • Monitor and maintain heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems to ensure optimal performance.
  • Collaborate with electricians to assist in the maintenance and repair of electrical systems.
  • Participate in carpentry and plumbing tasks as needed.
  • Receive and execute work orders, ensuring tasks are completed accurately with detailed documentation.
  • Follow established safety protocols to maintain a secure working environment, adhering to all relevant regulations.
  • Perform additional duties related to the maintenance and operation of the institution's facilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma is required; vocational training is preferred.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience with foundational knowledge in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and other trades.
  • Self-motivated individual with strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Physical capability to lift heavy objects and transport equipment as necessary.
  • Ability to navigate campus buildings while carrying tools and equipment, and work at heights using ladders and lifts.
  • Proficient in operating machinery and power tools, including saws and snow removal equipment.
  • Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to follow instructions effectively.
