The City of New York is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to serve as the Deputy Commissioner of Adult Protective Services. This key leadership position plays a critical role in ensuring the effective delivery of social, legal, and protective services to vulnerable adults in need.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and maintain program policies and procedures that adhere to the highest standards of practice in case management, service planning, and support services.
- Identify and resolve complex and sensitive issues that pose a risk to clients and staff, rendering final judgment on life-threatening conditions and questionable decisions.
- Review monthly reports on program productivity and progress, ensuring efficient service delivery and addressing problems or incidents as they arise.
- Confer with program directors to conduct regular programmatic evaluations, analyze data, and ensure program effectiveness.
- Oversee responses to state audits, develop corrective action plans, and identify areas of potential noncompliance.
- Represent the City of New York and interact with other city, state, and non-governmental organizations to improve services and identify new resources.
- Engage in collaborative efforts to strengthen partnerships with other organizations and foster the development of collaborative projects.
- Act as the spokesperson for Adult Protective Services, providing information to cooperating agencies and local communities.
- Work collaboratively with the Chief Special Services Officer and other DSS/HRA leadership on the APS budget and propose modifications and improvements.
- Participate in regular meetings with the Commissioner, Chief Special Services Officer, and other HRA leadership to form and implement policy.
- Serve as a permanent member of the NYS/DSS APS Advisory Council and prepare comments and amendments to proposed legislation and regulations.
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and four years of progressively responsible experience in a large governmental agency, business firm, civic, or community organization operating in the area of social services.
- One year of experience at the administrative or managerial level, with graduate education or a license substituting for up to three years of experience in the area of social services.
