Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Plans Examiner II/Senior to join our team at the City of West Sacramento, CA. As a key member of our Community Development Department, you will be responsible for reviewing and inspecting building plans to ensure compliance with local and state building codes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and inspect building plans to ensure compliance with local and state building codes
  • Conduct field investigations of structural problems and prepare reports and recommendations
  • Provide technical assistance and guidance to architects, engineers, contractors, and the general public
  • Develop and maintain records of inspections and ensure that inspections are completed
  • Coordinate with other departments and agencies to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent plus 30 semester units in building inspection technology, engineering, architecture, or related field
  • 2 years of full-time experience as a Plans Examiner I with the City of West Sacramento, or 3 years of full-time architectural, design, drafting, and inspection experience
  • Possession of an ICC Certification as a Residential and Commercial Plans Examiner
  • Valid California driver's license
  • Ability to work in a standard office or construction environment and attend off-site meetings
Preferred Qualifications
  • 4 years of experience performing work similar to that of a Building Plans Examiner II in the City of West Sacramento
  • Supervisory responsibilities
  • ICC Certification as a plumbing, mechanical, and electrical inspector and/or building inspector
  • CASp certification
