Position Overview Lancaster General Health is seeking a Certified Healthcare Assistant (CMA) for a full-time role within our urgent care facilities. WORK SCHEDULE : Full-Time, with a weekend rotation every third week, including several holidays throughout the year. This role requires cross-training in both clinical tasks and front desk operations. Our urgent care teams collaborate to ensure comprehensive coverage across all locations, which may necessitate occasional travel to fulfill operational needs. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) is mandatory.
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant from an accredited organization (AAMA, AMT, NHA, NCCT, or NAHTR). If not currently certified, candidates must have completed a Medical Assistant training program prior to employment and obtain certification within six months of hire.
  • CPR Certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support is required within 30 days of hire.
  • For regional roles, a valid driver's license is necessary.
  • Must be a healthcare provider in good standing with Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal and state health insurance programs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • One to two years of experience as a Medical Assistant in a primary or specialty care setting.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Qualified candidates should be able to perform the following tasks (with or without reasonable accommodation):
  • Prepare patients for their appointments using established rooming standards.
  • Administer injections as directed by the healthcare provider and according to practice protocols.
  • Prepare and dispense medications as prescribed by the provider, adhering to all federal and state regulations.
  • Assist providers with various procedures, minor surgeries, and examinations as required.
  • Conduct Point of Care Testing, including but not limited to hearing, flu, urine, and strep tests.
  • Remove sutures and change dressings as necessary.
  • Provide clinical advice via phone or electronic communication following established triage protocols.
  • Authorize prescription refills as instructed by the provider.
  • Assist in tracking test results and monitoring overdue outcomes.
  • Ensure exam rooms are stocked and sanitized after each patient visit, maintaining medical instruments and equipment.
  • Engage in proactive outreach for patients needing preventive and chronic disease services.
  • Coordinate care among specialists and facilitate transitions of care to gather all necessary patient information.
  • Assist with referrals, education, and community resource coordination.
  • Participate in initiatives aimed at improving patient experience and quality of care.
  • Engage in daily team meetings with the provider.
  • Act as a patient experience advocate, maintaining a positive demeanor when interacting with patients, visitors, and colleagues.
  • Handle all patient information confidentially, in accordance with privacy policies.
  • For regional roles, occasional travel to various sites may be required.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS: The following duties are considered secondary to the primary responsibilities listed above:
  • Perform various front office tasks as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
