Rice Companies is seeking a Senior Service Carpenter to enhance our operational capabilities. This pivotal role involves collaborating with management, sales personnel, engineers, architects, and clients to ascertain project requirements and specifications. The Lead Carpenter will engage in hands-on building repairs, assess potential projects, draft proposals as necessary, and negotiate remodeling and repair contracts with subcontractors to ensure profitable outcomes. This dynamic position emphasizes fulfilling and surpassing client expectations while adhering to financial projections and scheduling commitments, ensuring that all projects are executed with quality, profitability, and safety in mind.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Management (20%):

  • Support Senior Project Managers, Sales, or Business Development teams in evaluating potential projects and defining the scope of work, materials, subcontractors, and equipment necessary for precise proposals.
  • Assess subcontractor and supplier bids and proposals for accuracy.
  • Assist in the development of estimates and project budgets for client review.
  • Help determine labor needs and create weekly schedules for field staff.
  • Facilitate communication among management, sales teams, clients, field personnel, and subcontractors to guarantee successful project execution.
  • Ensure timely delivery of project materials and resources to job sites while confirming subcontractor compliance with company standards.
  • Maintain project timelines and budgets to ensure timely and cost-effective job completion while meeting client scheduling needs.
  • Conduct weekly job cost reviews and approve subcontractor/vendor billings.
  • Engage in weekly meetings with Services Management to promptly identify and address potential project concerns.
  • Collaborate with subcontractors and clients regarding project modifications and their impact on overall project costs, ensuring all parties understand and accept potential change orders.
  • Oversee project completion and authorize final invoices sent to clients.

Hands-On Project Work (80%):

Field service tasks may include, but are not limited to:

  • Metal and wood stud framing and layout.
  • Drywall installation, wall sheathing, backing, blocking, and other rough carpentry tasks.
  • Installation of doors and hardware, including metal and wood doors, exit devices, and closers.
  • FRP installation and the setup of bath accessories and partitions.
  • Finish carpentry, including cabinetry installation and trim work.
  • Selective demolition, encompassing the removal of walls, flooring, ceilings, doors, and finishes.
  • Occasional pre-engineered steel building assembly or repair, which may involve structural steel setting, metal wall and roof panel installation, insulation, and metal trim work.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of proven experience in commercial construction.
  • A four (4) year degree in construction management or equivalent is preferred.
  • Proficient use of construction tools and equipment, including saws, drills, levels, transits, and hand tools.
  • Preferred certifications for equipment operation (scissor lift, forklifts, boom lifts, skid steer, etc.).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; familiarity with basic office software.
  • Experience with Timberline/Sage 300 Estimating and QuickBooks is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced construction environment with precision and attention to detail.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with team members, subcontractors, and clients in a professional manner.
  • Capability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Leadership skills to guide and direct others.
