Job Overview

SUMMARY: The classroom educator, irrespective of background or ability, holds primary responsibility for the educational framework within the classroom while fostering family engagement. Through various training and initiatives, the educator will cultivate a nurturing environment conducive to the holistic growth and development of each child.

Site Location: Springfield Urban League

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Check in and out upon arrival and departure from any designated site.
  2. Ensure punctual daily attendance.
  3. Welcome children and families warmly, along with fellow staff members.
  4. Assist each child in achieving developmental milestones and support skill development in areas such as gross motor, self-help, social/emotional growth, cognitive abilities, and communication skills.
  5. Collaborate closely with Specialists and Coordinators to maintain comprehensive children's records.
  6. Develop and finalize a weekly lesson plan in partnership with the Teacher Assistant.
  7. Conduct home visits and conferences with the Teacher Assistant.
  8. Administer ongoing assessments for each child utilizing appropriate evaluation methods.
  9. Prepare materials for daily activities in collaboration with staff.
  10. Organize and arrange the classroom to align with children's needs, adhering to established guidelines.
  11. Ensure all classroom equipment is safe and well-maintained.
  12. Conduct an inventory of classroom supplies at the beginning and end of the program.
  13. Establish and uphold a positive standard of behavior for children and families.
  14. Maintain daily records, including attendance and assessments, as required.
  15. Supervise indoor and outdoor play while actively engaging with the children.
  16. Work alongside staff during meal times, modeling and discussing healthy eating practices.
  17. Assist children with bathroom routines.
  18. Request classroom supplies as necessary, following proper procedures.
  19. Oversee the overall management of the classroom, ensuring cleanliness and organization.
  20. Collaborate with families to plan and coordinate activities and excursions.
  21. Participate in all required workshops, training sessions, and staff meetings.
  22. Consult with the Site Manager regarding any site-related issues.
  23. Plan and conduct parent-teacher conferences biannually as directed.
  24. Work with specialists to support children with special needs.
  25. Assist in recruitment efforts throughout the year.
  26. Report emergencies and accidents to the Site Manager promptly.
  27. Complete a minimum of two home visits per program year, documenting additional visits as necessary.
  28. Notify the Site Manager of any absences and document attempts to contact families.
  29. Ensure compliance with child-to-staff ratios in the classroom, alerting the Site Manager to any issues.
  30. Create four homemade educational games annually, involving classroom assistants in their development.
  31. Adhere to policies and procedures for bus monitoring, ensuring children's safety during transport.
  32. Complete necessary paperwork in a timely manner.
  33. Post approved lesson plans weekly, ensuring all materials are prepared for implementation.
  34. Involve the Teacher Assistant in the development of lesson plans.
  35. Encourage the enrollment of families from diverse backgrounds, understanding their unique needs and interests.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. All center-based educators must possess at least an associate's or bachelor's degree in child development or early childhood education, or meet equivalent qualifications.
  2. Willingness to accept supervision and assignments as necessary.
  3. Understanding of program operations.
  4. Ability to lift a minimum of 40 pounds.
  5. Good physical health is required.
  6. Ability to build positive relationships with children, staff, and families.
  7. Completion of required training courses and workshops.
  8. Possession of a Food Service/Sanitation Certificate is optional.
  9. Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license with proof of insurance.
  10. Ability to pass a medical examination confirming freedom from communicable diseases and illegal substances.
  11. Must obtain and maintain First Aid and CPR certifications.

Compensation is based on education and credentials.
