Position Overview

SUMMARY: The Early Childhood Educator plays a vital role in fostering an enriching educational environment for children, regardless of their background. This position emphasizes the importance of family engagement and aims to cultivate a nurturing atmosphere that supports the holistic development of each child.

Location: Springfield Urban League

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Ensure proper sign-in and sign-out procedures are followed at all educational sites.
  2. Maintain punctuality for daily activities.
  3. Welcome children and families warmly, creating a friendly atmosphere.
  4. Support each child's developmental milestones through tailored activities that enhance gross motor skills, self-sufficiency, social/emotional growth, cognitive abilities, and communication.
  5. Collaborate with specialists and coordinators to maintain comprehensive records for each child.
  6. Develop and execute weekly lesson plans in partnership with the Teacher Assistant.
  7. Conduct home visits and parent conferences with the assistance of the Teacher Assistant.
  8. Implement ongoing assessments for children utilizing established evaluation methods.
  9. Prepare necessary materials for daily educational activities alongside staff.
  10. Organize the classroom environment to align with developmental standards and guidelines.
  11. Ensure all educational equipment is safe and well-maintained.
  12. Conduct inventory checks of classroom supplies at the beginning and end of the program.
  13. Establish and uphold positive behavioral expectations for children and families.
  14. Maintain accurate daily records, including attendance and assessments, as required.
  15. Supervise play activities both indoors and outdoors, engaging with children during play.
  16. Assist in serving meals in a family-style setting, promoting healthy eating habits.
  17. Support children during personal care routines.
  18. Request classroom supplies as needed, following proper procedures.
  19. Oversee the overall management of the classroom, ensuring cleanliness and organization.
  20. Engage families in planning educational activities and outings.
  21. Participate in all required training sessions, workshops, and meetings as directed.
  22. Consult with management regarding any site-related issues.
  23. Facilitate parent-teacher conferences as scheduled.
  24. Collaborate with specialists to support children with special needs.
  25. Assist in recruitment efforts throughout the year.
  26. Report emergencies and incidents to management promptly.
  27. Conduct a minimum of two home visits per program year, documenting additional visits as necessary.
  28. Notify management of any three-day absences while making contact attempts with families.
  29. Ensure compliance with child-to-staff ratios and report any enrollment concerns.
  30. Create four educational games annually for classroom use, involving assistants in their development.
  31. Adhere to bus monitoring policies, ensuring children's safety during transportation.
  32. Complete necessary documentation in a timely manner.
  33. Post lesson plans weekly, ensuring all materials are prepared for implementation.
  34. Involve the Teacher Assistant in the planning process for lessons.
  35. Encourage the enrollment of families from diverse backgrounds, understanding their unique needs and interests.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Possess an associate's or bachelor's degree in child development or early childhood education, or meet equivalent qualifications.
  2. Be open to supervision and various assignments.
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of program operations.
  4. Ability to lift at least 40 pounds.
  5. Maintain good physical health.
  6. Build positive relationships with children, staff, and families.
  7. Complete all required training and certifications.
  8. Possess reliable transportation and a valid driver's license with proof of insurance.
  9. Pass a medical examination confirming freedom from communicable diseases and illegal substances.
  10. Obtain and maintain First Aid and CPR certifications.

Compensation: Salary is based on education and credentials.
