Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join our team at the Early Education Program. As a key member of our teaching team, you will play a vital role in providing a safe, organized, and nurturing environment for our preschoolers with special needs.

Responsibilities
  • Child Safety and Well-being: Ensure the physical and emotional safety of all children at all times, maintaining a ratio of four or more staff to seven to nine children.
  • Classroom Support: Assist in setting up, organizing, and maintaining the classroom and materials, as well as record-keeping, copying, filing, and communication with families as directed by the classroom teacher.
  • Positive Interactions: Engage with children in warm, fun, and positive ways, demonstrating enthusiasm and nurturing behavior.
  • Flexibility and Adaptability: Be flexible, mindful, and responsive to individual child needs, supporting each child in meeting developmental goals.
  • Behavior Support: Use strategies to prevent challenging behavior, deal with child feelings with empathy, and treat challenging behavior as communication.
  • Lesson Planning and Implementation: Assist in planning and leading one-on-one and small group lessons, as well as participating in large group activities and free play.
  • Assessment and Progress Monitoring: Assist in assessing child progress at least weekly, as directed by the teacher or service coordinator.
  • Family Engagement: Welcome and respect families, maintaining confidentiality and acting to secure required State licensing requirements.
  • Professional Development: Attend training requested by EEP's contractor, Director, and/or Site Supervisor, demonstrating an excellent work ethic and punctuality.
Requirements and Preferences
  • Experience with Preschoolers: Required experience working with preschoolers, preferably with special needs.
  • Preschool Teaching Experience: Preferred experience as a preschool teacher or assistant teacher.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work well with others.
  • Passion for Teaching: A love for children, passion for teaching, and a desire to make a difference in their lives.
  • Cool-Tempered and Friendly: A cool-tempered, friendly, and accepting individual who can mediate between children.
  • Enrolled on Oregon's Child Care Central Background Registry: Required enrollment on Oregon's Child Care Central Background Registry.
  • Fluent Spanish: Preferred fluency in Spanish.
  • Early Childhood Education Background: A background in early childhood education or a related field, preferably with a BS/BA or Associate Degree.
