Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Pharmacy Technician to join our team at Yale New Haven Health. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of medications to our patients.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in medication distribution, inventory management, and patient care. You will be responsible for accurately and efficiently picking, preparing, packaging, labeling, and delivering medications to the appropriate storage areas of patient care units.

In addition to medication distribution, you will also be responsible for maintaining adequate medication inventory levels, ensuring proper medication movement through rotation of stock based on expiration and usage patterns, and removing expired medications or soon-to-be-expiring medications from inventory distribution.

You will also be responsible for demonstrating proficiency in all areas of medication distribution and automation/technology processes, including IV Admixture, Purchasing, Operating Room, Pediatrics, Investigation Drug Service, Controlled Substance Vault, Non-Sterile Oral Compounding, Extemporaneous Oral/Topical Compounding, Packaging, Oncology, and Specialty Pharmacy.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to effectively work with computer and technology equipment, including the ability to perform basic troubleshooting related to said technology.

Responsibilities:

  • Accurately and efficiently pick, prepare, package, label, and deliver medications to the appropriate storage areas of patient care units.
  • Maintain adequate medication inventory levels based upon par levels.
  • Ensure proper medication movement through rotation of stock based on expiration and usage patterns.
  • Remove expired medications or soon-to-be-expiring medications from inventory distribution.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in all areas of medication distribution and automation/technology processes.
  • Provide excellent customer service and communication skills.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • College degree desirable.
  • Successful completion of an academic or military hospital pharmacy technician training course preferred.
  • 6-months Pharmacy technician experience or healthcare experience required, hospital experience preferred.

Special Skills:

  • Proficiency in mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to effectively work with computer and technology equipment, including the ability to perform basic troubleshooting related to said technology.

  • Active Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification, or equivalent, is required on, or within 12 months of, date of hire.
