Job Overview:
This role is pivotal in managing billing processes, following up, and addressing issues that hinder or delay the payment of patient accounts in accordance with Intermountain's policies and procedures.

Position Details:


This is a PRN position, meaning it is 'As Needed'. As a Patient Access Representative, your responsibilities will include:
- Registering patients efficiently and accurately.
- Confirming, entering, and updating all necessary demographic information for patients and guarantors in the registration system while preventing duplicate records.
- Following established protocols for patient identification and applying identification bracelets correctly.
- Handling patient registrations during system downtimes and ensuring data is entered promptly once systems are available.
- Collecting and explaining copies of insurance cards, identification forms, and securing signatures on all required documentation.
- Verifying account information to assess insurance coordination of benefits and ensuring pre-certification or prior authorization is completed as needed.
- Completing the Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP) questionnaire when applicable.
- Assessing insurance coverage to determine coordination of benefits and obtaining necessary authorizations or referrals.
- Screening for non-covered services and managing waivers of liability through automated processes at the time of service.
- Informing self-pay patients about their financial responsibilities and coordinating alternative funding sources if necessary.
- Preparing cost estimates for procedures and calculating advance payment requirements based on previous balances.
- Referring potentially eligible patients to financial counseling services.
- Collaborating with clinical departments to ensure accurate orders are obtained to set patient financial expectations.
- Collecting patient payments and issuing accurate receipts while reconciling cash collected with receipts.
- Documenting all interactions and transactions in patient accounts.
- Maintaining departmental work queues and reports as required.
- Addressing patient billing inquiries and clarifying statement data to resolve account issues.
- Escalating unresolved account matters as necessary.
- Updating the emergency department room tracking system.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are essential.
- At least one year of experience in a customer service or hospitality role is preferred.

Physical Requirements:
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to operate computers and office equipment, requiring dexterity with fingers and hands.
- Capability to see and read computer screens and documents.
- Ability to remain seated or standing for extended periods while performing tasks on a computer or phone.
- May involve lifting and transporting office supplies, as well as bending, kneeling, and reaching.
