Our extensive fleet comprises approximately 130 vessels, ensuring we meet diverse marine operational demands.
Position Summary:
The role of an Able Seaman (AB) is crucial in maintaining the operational integrity of our marine vessels. Responsibilities are determined by the Master, who oversees the watch-standing schedule and assigns duties to the crew. Key responsibilities include:
1. Operational Responsibilities:
- Assisting in the assembly of tows;
- Managing the placement and switching of barges at docks;
- Facilitating vessel navigation through locks;
- Acting as lookout during operations;
- Executing various tasks such as coupling, winch operation, and line handling.
2. Maintenance Responsibilities:
- Performing vessel and tow upkeep, including painting and repairs;
- Conducting routine maintenance tasks as outlined by the Barge Maintenance Department;
- Ensuring barge dewatering as required;
- Gaining comprehensive knowledge of all vessel heaters;
- Troubleshooting and resolving barge issues.
3. Housekeeping Responsibilities:
- Maintaining cleanliness of the vessel;
- Overseeing personal and communal quarters;
- Ensuring the wheelhouse and galley are tidy;
- Cleaning heads and companionways;
- Assisting with cooking as needed.
4. Safety Responsibilities:
- Identifying and reporting hazardous conditions to the Master;
- Participating in safety training and programs.
Job Requirements:
- Capability to learn barge transfer operations;
- Understanding heater operations, including startup and shutdown procedures;
- Strong work ethic and commitment to safety;
- High school diploma or GED;
- Valid Driver's License and TWIC card;
- MMC - Able Seaman certification.
