Job Summary

Acuity is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Commercial Field Underwriter to join our team. As a Commercial Field Underwriter, you will be responsible for quoting and issuing new commercial accounts for a selected group of committed agents. You will promote Acuity commercial products to ensure strong growth of profitable business within a territory consisting of agencies located in Montana, with potential expansion to include northern Wyoming agencies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Business Development: Visit each agency on a regular basis to solicit new business and enhance agency relationships.
  • Risk Assessment: Inspect risks and make acceptability and pricing decisions, reviewing all agency prospects submitted.
  • Underwriting Decisions: Make appropriate selection and pricing decisions consistent with Acuity goals for growth and profitability.
  • Industry Knowledge: Stay up-to-date on all company underwriting policies, procedures, and guidelines, as well as industry events.
  • Communication: Recommend additional coverages or options to make proposals more responsive to the insured's needs, and maintain an excellent working relationship with agents and other Acuity personnel.
  • Travel: Be available to travel throughout the assigned territory and occasional travel to other territories as needed.
  • Administrative: Maintain a valid driver's license and acceptable motor vehicle record to operate a corporate vehicle, and perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher learning or equivalent experience. CPCU, CIC, or similar insurance designations are preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of five years of commercial underwriting experience is preferred.
  • Skills: Strong oral and written communication skills, ability to effectively sell Acuity, ability to communicate unpopular decisions tactfully, highly motivated, enthusiastic, and goal-oriented.
What We Offer

This position is classified as exempt. The salary range for this position is $75,000 - $145,000 annually.
