Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse Outpatient Market Specialist supports the practice manager and physicians in fulfilling the mission of Penn Medicine. This role is responsible for maintaining a patient-centered focus, supporting the delivery of high-quality care, and assisting in meeting or exceeding patient satisfaction and financial and operational targets.

Responsibilities:
  • Patient/Customer Accountabilities: Create a positive work environment to enhance effective care delivery. Promote a calm, safe, professional atmosphere for patients. Take personal responsibility for positive patient experience and improved practice performance.
  • Patient/Employee Safety Accountabilities: Participate in entity-wide initiatives for patient/employee safety. Demonstrate awareness of patient/employee safety when carrying out daily responsibilities.
  • Other Responsibilities: Work within the scope of practice as designated by the individual's state board of nursing. Demonstrate competence in assessment, treatment, and care within age-specific guidelines. Obtain patient vital signs as needed, including height, weight, temperature, and pulse. Report abnormal values to the provider. Document properly. Perform EKGs, screening tests, and accurately document results. Prepare paperwork to complete patient visits, including encounter forms, lab slips, x-ray requests, insurance forms, referrals, precertification, school/work forms, etc. Keep providers and patients informed of delays in patient schedule. Ensure patient care areas are kept neat, orderly, well-stocked, and properly prepared. Assure prescription pads are not accessible by patients. Clean, disinfect, and sterilize instruments and equipment according to protocols. Maintain medication storage closets, check expiration dates, and remove outdated items. Secure clinical and medical supplies/equipment in appropriate areas. Manage Epic Inbox for patients of assigned providers on a daily basis. Respond to all patient needs in a timely and efficient manner. Utilize office guidelines for telephone triage. Speak with the provider if the call is outside their scope of expertise. Assist with minor surgical procedures when requested. Assist the provider in exam rooms when requested. Assist in orienting new team members and serve as a resource to LPNs and Medical Assistants. Utilize available resources to meet deadlines and enhance performance. Adhere to universal body fluids precautions and infection control policies. Dispose of infectious waste properly. Comply with yearly education requirements, including HIPAA, OSHA, Safety, and CLIA.

Education or Equivalent Experience:
  • Bachelor of Arts or Science (Required)
