Job Summary

The Ophthalmic Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the mission and vision of Northwestern Memorial Healthcare by providing exceptional patient care and technical assistance to physicians and sub-specialists.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough patient interviews and document accurate histories.
  • Perform a range of technical tests and procedures, including refractions, lensometry, keratometry, tonometry, visual fields, and more.
  • Assist physicians with patient care, minor surgery, and scribes.
  • Communicate effectively with patients regarding follow-up care, surgeries, procedures, and schedule changes.
  • Maintain and clean equipment, reporting any deficiencies to management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the team.
Requirements
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
  • Basic knowledge of ophthalmic procedures and equipment.
