Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Ophthalmic Assistant to join our team at Northwestern Medicine. As an integral part of our healthcare team, you will provide technical and clinical support to physicians and sub-specialists, ensuring the highest level of patient care and satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interview patients and document their medical histories
  • Perform various tests, including refractions, lensometry, and visual fields
  • Assist physicians with patient care, minor surgery, and scribes
  • Communicate with patients and families regarding follow-up care, surgeries, and procedures
  • Maintain and clean equipment, reporting any deficiencies to management
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) certification through JCAHPO (exempt for applicants with a Doctor of Medicine degree)
  • Zero to two years of experience in a relevant role
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years of related experience (equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered)
  • Surgical assistance experience
