Job Title: Special Education Teacher

Location: New London, NC

Position Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Special Education Teacher to deliver specialized instruction and support to students with diverse learning needs in a supportive and inclusive environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Create and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to each student's unique needs.
  • Adjust the general education curriculum to accommodate students with different learning abilities.
  • Work collaboratively with general education teachers, school staff, and parents to enhance student learning and development.
  • Employ a variety of instructional strategies and resources to promote student success.
  • Monitor and evaluate student progress, making necessary instructional adjustments.
  • Maintain a safe and positive classroom atmosphere conducive to learning.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and other professional activities.
  • Keep accurate and detailed records of student performance and progress.
  • Stay informed about current trends and best practices in special education.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field. Master's degree is a plus.
  • Licensure:
    • Valid North Carolina Professional Educators License in Special Education (K-12).
    • Must meet North Carolina Department of Public Instruction requirements.
  • Certifications:
    • Appropriate teaching certification in Special Education.
    • Additional certifications as mandated by the state of North Carolina.
  • Experience:
    • Previous experience working with students with disabilities preferred.
    • Experience in developing and implementing IEPs is beneficial.
  • Skills:
    • Comprehensive understanding of special education laws and regulations.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills.
    • Patience, creativity, and a strong commitment to supporting students with special needs.
Working Conditions
  • The role may involve lifting and moving educational materials and equipment.
  • The teacher may need to assist students with physical needs, including mobility and personal care.
  • There may be exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
