The Assistant Head Sommelier plays a pivotal role in assisting the Head Sommelier in the development and management of the wine and sake offerings, aimed at enriching the overall dining experience for patrons. This position involves a blend of wine selection, service, and staff training to enhance the beverage program's effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Head Sommelier in curating a diverse and extensive wine list that aligns with the restaurant's culinary offerings and standards.
  • Provide personalized wine and sake recommendations to guests, taking into account their preferences and meal choices, while sharing insights on grape varietals and regions.
  • Collaborate with the culinary team to create wine pairing suggestions that elevate the dining experience and drive beverage sales.
  • Ensure adherence to wine service protocols, maintaining best practices for storage, handling, and serving to guarantee quality.
  • Conduct training sessions for staff to enhance their knowledge of wine and sake, covering essential topics such as production methods and service etiquette.
  • Perform regular inventory checks to maintain stock levels and report any discrepancies to the Head Sommelier.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and emerging wine regions to continuously enhance the beverage program.
  • Uphold the restaurant's service standards and participate in team meetings to remain informed about menu updates and promotions.
  • Act with integrity to uphold the company's reputation.
  • Fulfill additional duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Preferred certification as a Sommelier or higher, with comprehensive knowledge of wine regions and service techniques.
  • Experience in a fine dining environment or upscale restaurant setting.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to engage with guests professionally.
  • Detail-oriented with the capacity to multitask in a dynamic environment.
  • Team-oriented with a collaborative spirit.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform essential job functions in compliance with relevant standards.
  • Capability to lift and carry items up to 25 lbs and stand for extended periods.
  • Physical agility to navigate through various work areas.
